Director Farah Khan’s Om Shanti Om remains one of the most iconic Hindi films of recent times, and what is more iconic than the song ‘Deewangi Deewangi’, which featured many of the biggest names of the Hindi film industry. In a recent interaction, Farah recalled how, despite presence of various A-list stars, there was a ‘stampede’ on set when Mithun Chakraborty came by to shoot his portion. She revealed that the frenzy was so intense that even Shah Rukh Khan was sidelined for some time.

Speaking on Radio Nasha, Farah recounted, “People went crazy for Mithun da, and even I couldn’t believe it. There was a stampede on the set. Mithun da also came after a long time, so light boys and everybody came on the set. I think he was the president of some association and had done a lot for workers. They were literally giving their phones to Shah Rukh to click their photos with Mithun da.”

Composed by Vishal-Shekhar with lyrics by Javed Akhtar, ‘Deewangi Deewangi’ featured cameos by 31 actors from the Hindi film industry, including Dharmendra, Salman Khan, Dino Morea, Rani Mukerji, Preity Zinta, Sanjay Dutt, Lara Dutta, Shilpa Shetty, Priyanka Chopra, Kajol, Juhi Chawla, Karisma Kapoor, Saif Ali Khan, Rekha, Shabana Azmi, and Tabu, among others.

In an earlier interview on IFTDA Official’s YouTube channel, Farah revealed how Shah Rukh Khan, who was also the producer of Om Shanti Om, gifted goodie bags worth Rs 1 lakh to all the actors who attended the shoot of the song. The female actors got to keep the costumes, designed by Manish Malhotra.
