Amitabh Bachchan was blown away when he first saw the concept art for his character in Kalki 2898 AD as filmmaker Nag Ashwin approached him for the film. Big B plays the role of the immortal Ashwatthama in the film. In a recent interaction with the film’s cast and producers, the actor discussed the process of getting into character, which involved sitting in the prosthetics chair for three hours. In the end, he said, it was all worth it.

The Kalki 2898 AD pre-release event was held in Mumbai on June 19. After the event, the entire star cast sat down to talk about the film. Recalling the first time Nag Ashwin approached him about Kalki, Big B said on YouTube channel Vyjayanthi Network, “When Nagi came to talk to me about the film, he brought this concept art of what my character is going to look like and what Prabhas is going to look like, and I was this huge guy who was shoving off ‘the Prabhas’. To all the fans of Prabhas, please excuse me, mein hath jod ke maafi mang raha hu (I apologise with folded hands)…please don’t massacre me after you see what I do in the film.”

Talking about sitting in the prosthetics chair for hours, he said, “During the first trial, I had to wear makeup and prosthetics and I was saying, ‘Oh God, another prosthetic film.’ I had already done two before this. It’s very painful. But the three hours it used to take to put on the prosthetics and another hour-and-a-half to take it off, it was all worth it. For people who don’t know, during prosthetics, you have to sit in one position for three hours and cooperate with the makeup artist. It’s not a torture really, but some people think it is torturous. However, once you know what the final result is going to be…” Kamal Hassan quickly added, “It is a torture if the movie is not good enough.”

Later in the conversation, Prabhas shared how he was surprised by Big B’s strength during a fight scene. He said, “The first time we had a fight, he caught me. I was thinking I need to be careful, but when he caught me, I was like, this man is not his age. He is 25-26. He is so strong.”

Kalki 2898 AD has already raked in over Rs 6 crore in advance bookings. The film releases in theatres on June 27.
