Sharmin Segal made her debut in the movies in 2019 with Malaal but it was after Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Heeramandi that Sharmin actually got famous. Soon after the release of the show in May, Sharmin’s performance was criticised by viewers but not just that, even her demeanour in the promotional interviews came under the scanner. Now, Sharmin has opened up about the interviews that were taken out of context and made her look like a “disrespectful person.” She clarified her comment of calling her co-star Aditi Rao Hydari a “school girl” and the comment where Richa Chadha questioned her cooking skills.

In a chat with India Today, Sharmin said that before this particular interview, the cast was told that this would be a roast. “Things are being taken out of context to the point where they are trying to make me look like a disrespectful person to my co-stars or arrogant or rude, which is not the equation I share with any of my co-stars,” she said and recalled the interview where she called Aditi a “school girl.”

“There was this one interview that came out where I think I called Aditi a school girl and that was actually… we were told in the beginning of that interview that it was a roast. In that same interview, Richa has looked at me and said ‘acha tujhe khana bhi banana aata hai? (You know how to cook?)’ So in that interview, that also got taken out of context that Richa is roasting Sharmin and making fun of her,” she shared. Sharmin said that “the interview was supposed to be a roast and it came out a little bit aggressive and that could have been toned down but that was something that was completely out of context.”

Sharmin said that these clips do not correctly represent her off-camera equation with Aditi and Richa as they deeply care for her and have checked in on her through the last month as she has faced severe trolling online. “The equation I share with Aditi is very different. She looks out for me, I look out for her. We feed each other. We talk to each other. We spend time together on set and off set and she is one of the people who have most actively called me, checked in on me, made sure I was okay throughout this month. I love her. So I think it’s a complete misrepresentation of my equation with Aditi. I have only respect for her,” she said.

She also spoke about her relationship with Richa Chadha and said that Richa has called her everyday since the trolls started attacking her. “Richa, for example, has checked in on me everyday and she tried to make it a point to tell people that the interviews are taken out of context because she was sitting right next to me. That is something I really appreciate from my co-stars,” she said.

In an earlier interview, Sharmin had compared Aditi to a diligent school girl and said, “Aditi is a good school girl, please understand that. Teacher will say you have to submit your home work at this time and Aditi will do exactly that and not one more word than the word count limit. That is Aditi for you. So, according to her everyone is late and she is on time.” At the time, many netizens called her attitude “foul” and accused Sharmin of sounding “bitter and jealous.”
