The case is now closed without prejudice, which means the Northern Irishman will have to start from scratch if he decides he does want a divorce.

The Daily Mail was first to report the news.

McIlroy, 35, initially requested to dissolve the union on May 13, but he says he and his spouse — with whom he shares one child — have since worked through their issues.

“There have been rumors about my personal life recently, which is unfortunate. Responding to each rumor is a fool’s game,” the athlete told the Guardian in a statement Tuesday.

“Over the past weeks, Erica and I have realized that our best future was as a family together. Thankfully, we have resolved our differences and look forward to a new beginning.”

While McIlroy was in Kentucky preparing for the PGA Championship, Stoll, 36, was served with divorce papers — which cited an “irrevocably broken” marriage — at their home in Jupiter.

McIlroy’s petition requested joint custody of their 3-year-old daughter, Poppy, and asked for a judge to enforce a prenuptial agreement the pair signed prior to their April 2017 wedding.

The summons gave Stoll 20 days to file a counterclaim or risk having the court grant the divorce by default; she failed to file a response or even register an attorney by the June 2 deadline.

The “rumors” McIlroy chose not to address might be those linking him to CBS Sports reporter Amanda Balionis, whom he was seen hugging after the duo did an interview at the recent Canadian Open.

Though Balionis is married to football coach Bryn Renner, she has recently been spotted without her wedding ring.

However, a source told Us Weekly that she and McIlroy are not dating and have a professional relationship only.
