Farah Khan is one of the most renowned choreographers in the Hindi film industry today but the first time that she choreographed a film song was Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar’s “Pehla Nasha”. In a recent chat, Farah recalled how she landed that opportunity and said that the song was initially supposed to be done by late choreographer Saroj Khan. Farah shared that the Marilyn Monroe-like pose done by Pooja Bedi caused a spot boy on set to faint as Pooja didn’t push down her skirt.

In a chat with Radio Nasha, Farah shared, “Saroj ji was dong the song, everyone knows that. Then something happened and she had to go back to Bombay to shoot with Sridevi or Madhuri and we were in Ooty. She left and didn’t come back.” Farah said that she had choreographed a few shows until then so the film’s director Mansoor Khan called her and asked her to take over the song as they were losing money by not shooting.

Farah Khan said that she asked him for a day’s time and redid the song’s concept. Introducing slow motion in the song and giving it a dream-like vibe, Farah decided to present Pooja Bedi in a Marilyn Monroe-avatar where she had to stand on top of a car as a fan blew her skirt from below.

“It was my idea to shoot Pooja Bedi in that Marilyn Monroe style. I told Pooja that when the fan goes off, you hold your skirt down. In the first shot, there was a spot boy holding the fan and when the fan was switched on, Pooja didn’t hold her skirt down and the spot boy fainted and that is the first time I saw what a thong looks like. Pooja was bindass, she didn’t care,” she shared with a laugh.

Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar starred Aamir Khan, Ayesha Jhulka and Deepak Tijori in the lead roles.
