Hollywood actor Will Smith made headlines in 2022 when he slapped comedian Chris Rock on stage at the 94th Oscars, with the hashtag #slapheardaroundtheworld breaking the internet, following a joke about his wife, actor Jada Pinkett Smith. Among those who supported Smith’s action was Bollywood actor and Mandi MP-elect Kangana Ranaut. Now, a post that she shared on this, soon after the incident happened, has resurfaced and started making waves on social media platforms like X (formerly Twitter) and Reddit, following an incident involving her at the Chandigarh airport where the Queen actor was allegedly slapped by a CISF constable.

In 2022, after the Oscars slap which led to a divided public opinion and a subsequent apology from Smith to The Academy, Kangana defended the King Richard actor via her Instagram Stories. She shared a picture of the incident, asserting she would have reacted similarly if someone mocked her family. She wrote, “If some idiot used my mom or sister’s illness to make a bunch of fools laugh I would slap him like @willsmith did… bada*** move…”

Fast forward to June 6, 2024, Kangana was allegedly slapped by a Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) constable at the Chandigarh airport when she was en route Delhi for a National Democratic Alliance (NDA) meeting after her Mandi win as a BJP candidate. In response, Kangana took to X to address those defending the constable’s actions.

CISF’s Kulwinder Kaur slapped Kangana Ranaut at #Chandigarh airport because she was allegedly upset with Kangana’s statements over farmers’ protests.

Kangana tweeted, “Every rapist, murderer or thief always has a strong emotional, physical, psychological or financial reason to commit a crime. No crime ever happens without a reason, yet they are convicted and sentenced to jail. If you are aligned with the criminal’s strong emotional impulse to commit a crime violating all laws of the land.”

She added, “Remember if you are ok with breaking into someone’s intimate zone, without their permission, touching their bodies and assaulting them, then deep down you are ok with rape or murder also because that’s also just penetration or stab only what big deal. You must look deeper into your psychological criminal tendencies. I suggest please take up yoga and meditation or else life will become a bitter and burdensome experience. Don’t carry so much grudge, hate, and jealousy, please, free yourself.”

Her tweet sparked a backlash online. One X user commented, “As per Kangana Ranaut, Will Smith can hit someone for making a joke about his wife, but another woman can’t hit her for calling her mother ‘Rs 100 mein baithne wali‘ (someone worth Rs 100) and asking to behead her farmer father? Hypocrisy ki seema (There should be a limit to hypocrisy) guys…” On Reddit, another user remarked, “Perfect. Shows her hypocrisy and victim mentality when actually she is at fault!” Others echoed similar sentiments, criticising Kangana for her perceived double standards.

The incident at the airport is reported to have stemmed from a comment Kangana made about women farmers, including the constable’s mother, participating in a protest against the now-repealed farm laws. In a widely shared video, the constable explained her actions, stating, “Kangana had given a statement that women farmers were sitting at the farmers’ protest for Rs 100 each. My mother was also sitting there when she gave this statement. I could not tolerate the insult of my mother.” An FIR has been lodged against the constable following the altercation.
