Sathyaraj, popularly known for playing the role of Katappa in SS Rajamouli’s magnum opus film Baahubali, recently starred in the film Weapon. During one of the promotional events of the film, the actor shared a special anecdote and also revealed an unseen photo of himself with Aavesham star Fahadh Faasil.

A video clip of Sathyaraj from one of his interviews is being widely circulated online where he can be seen showing a throwback photo of himself with Fahadh Faasil. It is a black and white photo of the actor posing with little Fahadh Faasil.

Sharing the story behind the photo, the actor said, “Do you recognise this person? It’s Fahadh Faasil! Fazil sir (Fahadh’s father) was the director of both Poovizhi Vasalile (1987) and En Bommukutty Ammavukku (1988). He is a renowned filmmaker and likes to shoot in his hometown of Alleppey (Alappuzha). So, both Poovizhi Vasalile and En Bommukutty Ammavukku were filmed in Alleppey.”

He added, “One day, I visited his house for lunch and this photo was taken then. I still remember eating lobster biryani at his place. Until then, I had only known biryani with prawns, chicken or mutton. But Fazil sir had prepared lobster biryani and it was delicious! We clicked this photo right after lunch. Look where Fahadh has reached now. What a performance he delivered in Aavesham!”

Both Poovizhi Vasalile and En Bommukutty Ammavukku played a key role in propelling Sathyaraj to stardom. While Poovizhi Vasalile was a remake of Fazil’s blockbuster Mammootty-starrer Poovinu Puthiya Poonthennal (1986), En Bommukutty Ammavukku was a remake of Ente Mamattukkuttiyammakku (1983), featuring Bharat Gopy, Mohanlal, Sangeeta Naik, and Poornima Jayaram in the lead roles.

Meanwhile, Sathyaraj’s recent release Weapon has opened to mixed reviews. Kirubhakar Purushothamam in his review for indianexpress.com wrote, “This is the pinnacle of creativity director Guhan Senniappan manages to attain in the colossal mess of a screenplay, where it is hard to make sense of what’s going on. Mind you, it is not a complex film. It is just poorly edited and executed in the hope of coming across as layered and non-linear.”

On the other hand, Fahadh Faasil who was last seen in Aavesham, will soon be seen reprising his role of SP Bhanwar Singh in Allu Arjun and Rashmika Mandanna starrer Pushpa: The Rule, the sequel to the 2021 film, Pushpa: The Rise.
