It isn’t a hidden fact that Kartik Aaryan had to completely transform his lifestyle, including his sleep schedule and eating habits, to prepare for his role in Chandu Champion. In a recent conversation, the film’s director, Kabir Khan, revealed that Kartik, who was an insomniac before taking on the role, adopted healthy habits during his preparation, which have now become a permanent part of his lifestyle.

When Kabir learned about Kartik’s poor sleeping habits, he immediately warned him that he wouldn’t be able to sustain the film’s preparation without adequate sleep. The filmmaker told IndiaToday.in, “When I met him, he was an insomniac and used to sleep for four hours. I told Kartik, ‘For this journey, if you don’t sleep for eight hours minimum, there’s no point in undertaking this journey.’ He told me, ‘For this character, my life became different.’ Today he’s somebody who sleeps for eight hours, looks at everything he eats, has a very fit lifestyle.”

Kabir Khan also emphasized that Kartik Aaryan chose to achieve this transformation naturally, without the help of any steroids. During the interaction, Kabir explained how he was part of Kartik’s transformation journey and kept track of his schedule. He shared that the actor lived the life of an athlete for 1.5 years.

He said, “I had to put in a huge team of physical trainers, physiotherapists, dietitians, boxing coaches, swimming coaches, and wrestling coaches. It was a massive team. And literally, for 1.5 years, Karthik has lived the life of an athlete. He would wake up early in the morning, go to the gym, have his food, and then go for a boxing session. Then come back and sleep. We even had to monitor his sleep.”

Chandu Champion is inspired by the life of Murlikant Petkar, India’s first Paralympic gold medalist. The film chronicles the protagonist’s transformation from a young man to a soldier, boxer and a survivor. The film will release in theatres on June 14.
