Telugu actor and politician Nandamuri Balakrishna faced severe backlash after videos of him pushing actor Anjali at an event surfaced online, and now, a day later, Anjali has broken her silence on the subject. Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Anjali wrote about the Gangs of Godavari pre-release event that they attended, and thanked Balakrishna for his presence. She also shared a highlights video from the event, along with her tweet which included the visuals of Balakrishna pushing her.

She wrote, “I want to thank Balakrishna Garu for gracing the Gangs of Godavari pre-release event with his presence. I would like to express that Balakrishna garu and I have always maintained mutual respect for each other, and we share a great friendship from a long time. It was wonderful to share the stage with him again.”

While it appeared that Anjali did not want to directly address the matter, her followers on X were quick to say that she could not go ruffle feathers. One of her followers wrote, “I understand you can’t go against the system…because the system is under control , You deserve better.” Another X user implied that Anjali was being forced to tweet this statement. “Anjali, quickly blink eyes twice if you need our help and get saved,” they wrote. There were also a few who felt that Anjali’s tweet was in Balakrishna’s defence as they wrote, “Too late to defend him now.”

Previously, filmmaker Hansal Mehta shared the clip on X and wrote, “Who is this scumbag?” Later, singer Chinmayi Sripaada also reacted to the incident and addressed those who were pointing out Anjali’s laughter from the video. She wrote, “One of the biggest problems that I notice from people sharing this ‘Look at her laughing. She should have _____’ 1. It is NOT possible to respond according to your spectator response as you watch this on your device. This most moral policing, holier than thou – pure as driven snow – Harishchandra /Sri Ramachandramoorthy or their relative incarnates will fail to understand. 2. Society itself refuses to hold men in power who misbehave responsible; Especially when they come from money, caste and political power. Don’t come and tell women what to say and how to behave when you have everything to gain and nothing to lose.”

On Wednesday, Nandamuri Balakrishna was the chief guest at the pre-release event of Gangs of Godavari which stars Vishwak Sen, Neha Shetty and Anjali. The video from the event showed Balakrishna pushing Anjali on stage after his instructions went unheard.

Nandamuri Balakrishna is one of the biggest stars in the Telugu film industry. He was last seen in the film Bhagavanth Kesari.
