Maharaj, also starring Jaideep Ahlawat, Sharvari Wagh and Shalini Pandey is inspired by the 1862 Maharaja Libel Case. In the film Junaid plays the role of Karsandas Mulji, a journalist and social reformer and a pioneering advocate for women’s rights and social reform. A student at Elphinstone College in Mumbai and a protégé of the scholar-leader Dadabhai Naoroji, he wrote on widow remarriage, stood up for the oppressed, and sowed the seeds of reform in society.

Talking about her working experience with Junaid, Sharvari, who plays a pivotal role in the film, said in an interview with News18, “Junaid is a very easy breezy human being. He’s a good co-actor to work with. I had a lot of fun working with him. We’re in the same age group, so we had a blast during the shoot. Maharaj is one of his first few projects and so is mine. That’s why we had a very similar energy on set.”

Netflix and Yash Raj Films’ Maharaj will showcase Mulji’s acts of bravery. Based on the libel case, the film introduces audiences to Junaid Khan in his acting debut with his helmed by filmmaker Siddharth P Malhotra.

After Maharaj, Junaid will be seen sharing the screen in Sai Pallavi in a film which is reportedly titled Ek Din.
