Mahira Khan, mostly seen in Pakistani films and television shows and has also appeared in the Indian film Raees, recently spoke about her love for late actor Parveen Babi. In a video for clothing brand Muse, Mahira shared her appreciation for Parveen’s dance numbers and her mesmerising presence on screen. When asked about the inspiration behind her style, Mahira spoke about Parveen’s iconic TIME magazine cover.

“I remember seeing this TIME magazine cover and it had the gorgeous Parveen Babi on it. I don’t know if you have seen any of her films but it’s because of that cover that I actually watched her films and some of her songs, I just loved. She was so beautiful, such a style goddess,” Mahira said.

Mahira Khan also named the 1981 song from Namak Halaal, “Jawani Janeman”, as one of her favourites. She also hummed a couple of lines from the number.

Mahira Khan starred in the 2017 film Raees alongside Shah Rukh Khan but because of the Uri attacks in 2016, there was an unofficial ban on casting actors from across the border. In an earlier interview with FWhy podcast, Mahira spoke about that time in her life and said, “It was unexpected. I’d finished the film, it was going just fine. Then suddenly this attack happens, and politically, everything gets… It’s always political, it’s always political. With India, it’s always political. But the fact that it would get this messy…”

Mahira also spoke about fainting after an anxiety attack and shared, “That was a hard time for me. I felt attacked. My picture was constantly there on their channels, and even here… You’re getting mean tweets, and threats and comments. They’re like, ‘Get out of here’, and I was like, ‘I was never there, I’m here, I’m home’. And people at home are saying, ‘Why did you even go?’. I was being attacked from both sides, and that is the time when my faith broke a little. I developed severe anxiety, to the point that one day, I had a panic attack and fainted.”
