‘Two swords can’t fit into the same sheath’ is an adage that has been the core idea of numerous buddy cop films, where the two lead characters, despite their own conflict, come together to solve a tricky case. That’s exactly the premise of the upcoming Malayalam film Thalavan, which has Asif Ali as a new upright cop in town and Biju Menon as a veteran senior officer. The trailer of the film has been released on YouTube, offering viewers a glimpse into the power struggle between two contrasting police officers portrayed by the two brilliant actors.

Titled Thalavan (The Head in Malayalam), the film delves into the intricacies of hierarchy within the police force, as depicted through the characters of Inspector Jayashankar (Biju Menon) and Sub Inspector Karthik (Asif Ali). It sets the stage for a tense confrontation between the seasoned veteran and the ambitious newcomer in an unassuming town, which is witnessing violent crimes.

Directed by Jis Joy, Thalavan promises an engaging narrative about the dynamics of control and ego between its lead characters. Asif Ali’s Karthik, with a history of multiple transfers in a short span of time, is completely opposite to Biju Menon’s Inspector Jayashankar, who isportrayed as a grounded and experienced officer.

While Thalavan marks the first collaboration between director Jis Joy and Biju Menon, Asif Ali reunites with the director following their successful previous ventures.

The film also boasts a talented ensemble cast, including Dileesh Pothen, Anushree, Miya, and Kottayam Nazeer, among others. The technical team of the film features music composer Deepak Dev, cinematographer Sharan Velayudhan, and editor Sooraj ES. Thalavan is set to be released on May 24, 2024.
