The Malayalam film industry is mourning the loss of director-writer Biju Vattappara, who passed away at the age of 54 on May 13.

According to reports, Vattappara collapsed while visiting a lawyer in Muvattupuzha, Kerala, and despite efforts to rush him to a nearby hospital, he succumbed on the way.

Biju Vattappara left a commendable mark on the Malayalam entertainment industry with his directorial ventures and screenplays. His films, notably Raama Raavanan and Swantham Bharya Zindabad, garnered both critical acclaim and popular recognition.

On top of his works for the silver screen, Vattappara’s talent transcended mediums as he contributed significantly to television serials and documentaries. He showcased his literary acumen through novels like Chakkara Vava, Velutha Kathreena, and a plethora of stories and poems.

Among his many accolades, Biju Vattappara was honored with the prestigious Kuttikrishnan Sahitya Award for his poetry collection, Idavazhiyum Thumbapoovum, further cementing his place in the literary landscape.

Biju Vattappara is survived by his father Ravi and daughter Devanandana.
