It was an unlikely trio but also an unforgettable one. Megastar Amitabh Bachchan, actors Irrfan Khan and Deepika Padukone collaborated on their acclaimed 2015 slice of life drama comedy Piku and on the film’s ninth anniversary on Wednesday, the Fighter star shared an amusing throwback picture from the sets.

The film, penned by Juhi Chaturvedi and directed by Shoojit Sircar, followed the story of a daughter and her aging father, whose eccentricities drive everyone crazy. The film featured Deepika as the headstrong ambitious woman Piku Banerjee, while Bachchan played her father.

Deepika Padukone took to Instagram and shared the special image, where Bachchan was seen talking, while Irrfan and Deepika look at each other, smiling. A spot boy is seen holding a fruit plate in front of Bachchan.

She captioned the pictures, “He loves telling everyone how much I eat!🙄🤷🏽‍♀️ @amitabhbachchan #Piku #Bashkor #Rana #ShoojitSirkar @irrfan Oh how much we miss you…❤️❤️❤️”.

Piku remains a fan favourite film and is ranked as one of the best performances of Deepika, Irrfan and Amitabh Bachchan. The film was a major commercial hit, earning rave reviews upon its release for its script, performances, music and humour. It was also the only film where Irrfan and Deepika shared screen space.

The two were supposed to re-unite for a Vishal Bhardwaj film, Sapna Didi, which could not materialse as Irrfan was diagnosed with cancer. The actor passed away in 2020. Deepika was also supposed to collaborate with Bachchan on the Hindi remake of The Intern, which has now been put on the backburner.

Deepika Padukone will be next seen in Prabhas-led actioner Kaki 2898 AD, followed by a special appearance in Singham Again, headlined by Ajay Devgn and also starring Ranveer Singh.
