The Metropolitan Museum of Art hosted yet another edition of the prestigious Met Gala early on Tuesday morning, drawing the crème de la crème of the global entertainment industry. Among those fashionista A-listers who made jaws drop with their stunning appearances and impressive attire on the red carpet were actors Zendaya, Jennifer Lopez, Gigi Hadid, Mindy Kaling and Sarah Jessica Parker. Notably, Indian stars like Alia Bhatt, Isha Ambani and billionaire Sudha Reddy also captivated audiences.

Meanwhile, amidst all the glitter and glam, Indian fashion entrepreneur Mona Patel was the one to steal the show with her “mechanical butterflies” dress, styled by popular stylist Law Roach, which has won the hearts of both Gala enthusiasts and netizens.

Despite it being her grand debut at the fashion event, Patel managed to turn as many heads as possible, majestically sporting a nude floor-grazing sculpted gown with a butterfly-shaped corset and scalloped train, crafted by Iris Van Herpen, perfectly in tune with the theme of “The Garden of Time”.

Hailing from Vadodara, Gujarat, Patel moved to the US at a young age to pursue higher education at Rutgers University and finally settled there in 2003 to give life to her entrepreneurial endeavours, Vogue India reported.

Now based permanently in the US, Patel has built a million-dollar empire that spans multiple businesses, at the heart of which lies her brainchild, Couture For Cause, a non-profit blending her passion for fashion with philanthropy.

“I wanted my debut look to be something that celebrates my heritage and also combines my love for couture, and when I heard of the theme, Iris Van Herpen seemed like the obvious choice,” Patel told Vogue India in March. The Met Gala is an annual fundraising gala held for the benefit of the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute.
