Actor Manisha Koirala, who is currently seen in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Heeramandi, has opened up about her experience working with the filmmaker. Manisha said that she was gardening in Nepal when Bhansali called her. The actor also talked about the oral-sex scene featuring her with Shekhar Suman. Besides praising Bhansali, she also spoke highly of Salman Khan, sharing how he’s always helping people.

In an interview with Bollywood Bubble, Manisha said, “I was in Nepal doing gardening when I got a call from Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s office. Sanjay said on call, ‘Manisha there is a good role for you, just read the script.’ I was so happy. I had stopped dreaming about working with him.”

When asked if she knew about the racy scene with Shekhar, Manisha said that she wasn’t fully aware about the scene and said, “When rehearsals were going on, it must have been new.” For the unversed, in the scene, Shekhar’s character approaches Manisha’s Mallikajaan, but he is too drunk to realise where she is seated. According to Shekhar, Bhansali envisioned the nawab turning around for fellatio mid-air, mistakenly believing Mallikajaan was seated on that side. Manisha added, “Everything that Sanjay does, he tries to bring in a new element.”

Shekhar had earlier said that Bhansali improvised the scene at the last minute. “The scene is about a nawab who is peeing out of a carriage, and in his state of inebriation is trying to make out with Mallikajaan. Bhansali wanted the nawab to turn around, and get fellatio mid-air, thinking that Mallikajaan is sitting on that side. And he’s convinced. It was a strange interpretation, and it hasn’t been done by anybody before, somebody having sex mid-air. He said, ‘I’m fine if you say no, if you find it too bizarre’,” he had said.

When asked about working Bollywood’s three Khans — Salman Khan, Shah Rukh Khan and Aamir Khan — Manisha heaped praise on Salman and said, Salman ne joh Being Human khola hai, kafi madad karta hai gareeb aur jisko zarorat hai. Mujhe malum hai kafi cancer patients ko unhone madad kiya hai aur doctors ko bolte hai ki mera naam mat lo ki mere taraf se (help) jaa raha hai. (Salman Khan, via his Being Human foundation, has helped many poor and needy. I know he had contributed towards the treatment of several cancer patients and asked the doctors not to disclose his identity.)”

Heeramandi is streaming on Netflix and also stars Sonakshi Sinha, Aditi Rao Hydari and others in pivotal roles.
