Lara Dutta is no damsel in distress and the actor recently shared an anecdote from her early days in the movies when she actually had to thrash a guy in the crowd after he sneakily pinched her. Lara recalled this incident from the time when she went for the music launch of her first film Andaaz with Priyanka Chopra and Akshay Kumar.

In a chat with Hauterrfly, Lara shared the incident that happened in Delhi’s Chandni Chowk. “During my first film, Andaaz, Priyanka, Akshay and me, all three of us went to Delhi. I think it was somewhere in Chandni Chowk, there used to be a place called Rhythm House which was the venue for our music release. It was my first film, it was my first time as an actress and I was wearing a saree that day,” she recalled.

Lara said that there was a big crowd outside the venue as Akshay Kumar was there with Miss World Priyanka Chopra and Miss Universe Lara herself. She shared that someone from the crowd sneaked in their hand and pinched her on her waist. “Someone in the crowd sneaked in their hand and pinched me on my waist. I almost had some intuition, maybe this was military training, that you can sense that something is wrong. The moment that hand came in, I held that hand and I puled out that guy from the crowd,” she said.

Lara said that the man who was harassing her fell down and she started beating him up. “I was in a saree and I thrashed him like anything. Akshay got worried and he had to physically pull me back. He said ‘what are you doing? You are an actress, you can’t do this,” she recalled.

In the same chat, Lara said that she has never been a damsel in distress and has always been fiercely independent. She also spoke about living alone in Mumbai since the age of 17 and how the city was a safe place for women.
