Fardeen Khan, a popular actor in the 90s and early 2000s who has been a part of hit films like No Entry and All The Best among others, took a break from acting in 2010. Fardeen is now all set to make his comeback with Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar on Netflix.

The actor recently said that after being away from the screen for over a decade, he is nervous and excited in equal measure for his comeback project. Fardeen said that he feels like a newcomer now.

Talking to ANI, Fardeen Khan said, “I am very excited. I am also very nervous since 14 years is quite a long time. I have thought of myself as a newcomer and I have come back. I am getting the opportunity to work with good people. My two other films will be released this year.”

Fardeen then shed some light on his character in the show Heeramandi. He said, “As the name suggests, Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar, is based in colonial India. It is a story of politics, the nawabs and above all it is the story of two houses of Mallikajaan and Fareedan who are at odds with each other. It is a story of love, betrayal, revenge, corruption and patriotism.”

Fardeen Khan, who has majorly portrayed chocolate boy roles in his films, is shedding his image for an intense, author-backed role in the Netflix series. Speaking at length about his role and what sets him apart in the show, he said, “Wali Mohammed was a nawab of that time, a royalty. For him, his social status, his wealth was very important. But Wali Mohammed was very different, and he never gave up on his humanity. He believed in love. He was a noble man and respected women. In this story, through the nawabs, they have tried to show all the shades of how power, wealth and money can corrupt you and the decisions that you take. So, he (Bhansali) has shown these different shades through nawabs and how it affects people.”

Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar, also starring Manisha Koirala, Sonakshi Sinha, Aditi Rao Hydari, Richa Chadha and Shekhar Suman among others, will drop on Netflix on May 1.
