Former Chennai Super Kings skipper MS Dhoni put on a show with the bat once again in IPL 2024, as he nailed 28 runs off nine deliveries to propel CSK to 176/6 against the Lucknow Super Giants at the Ekana International Stadium on Friday.
Coming in to bat towards the closing stages of the innings, Dhoni laced three fours and two sixes off his innings. It was his maximum in the last over of Yash Thakur that took the cake.
Picking a slot ball from Thakur, Dhoni dispatched it over the mid wicket fence for a 101m six. It was the 65th six for Dhoni in the 20th over of the IPL. Here’s the video:
This season, Dhoni has 87 runs to his name off five innings, the last of which was a 20-run cameo against the Mumbai Indians, which had helped CSK cross the 200-run mark and eventually win the game by 20 runs.
Dhoni’s best picking of the season with the bat came against the Delhi Capitals in Visakhapatnam, when he scored a quickfire 37.
Earlier on Friday, KL Rahul won the toss and opted to field first. Having lost Rachin Ravindra and Ruturaj Gaikwad in the powerplay, CSK relied on Ajinkya Rahane (36) and Ravindra Jadeja (57) to stabilize the innings before Dhoni and Moeen Ali – who nailed three maximums in his 20 runs – cameo provided the finishing touches.

Krunal Pandya was the pick of the bowlers for the home side, nabbing two wickets and conceding only 16 runs off his three overs quota on the night.
