Jos Buttler slammed his second century of the ongoing IPL 2024 season for Rajasthan Royals against Kolkata Knight Riders in Kolkata on Tuesday.
Buttler notched up his hundred off 55 deliveries as he led RR in a sensational 224-run chase against KKR. Buttler thus went past Chris Gayle in the all-time list for most IPL hundreds with his seventh century.
Buttler smashed the first century of his T20 career in the IPL in 2021. He followed up with a record-equalling four tons in the IPL 2022 season where he smashed 863 runs. Earlier this season, Buttler cracked his sixth IPL ton against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru during 100th IPL appearance – the second player to achieve the feat after KL Rahul.

Who has scored most centuries in IPL history?
Virat Kohli leads the list for most centuries in the IPL with eight tons. The 35-year-old Kohli had recorded two hundreds last season while amassing 639 runs in 14 matches.
After spending eight seasons without a hundred, Kohli broke the drought with a record four hundreds in the IPL 2016 season where he led to the finals. Kohli aggregated 973 runs in that season – a season record that continues to be the benchmark in the league.
Throughout the course of the Indian Premier League, a total of 93 centuries have been scored, starting from the very first game in the league’s history back in 2008 when Kolkata Knight Riders’ Brendon McCullum smothered 158 off 73 against the Royal Challengers Bangalore at the Chinnaswamy Stadium.
While Kohli holds the overall record with eight centuries, Buttler (7) and Gayle (6) make up the top three. Gayle has 175 against Pune Warriors India, which is also the highest any batter has scored in a single IPL innings. It was also the fastest IPL hundred — off just 30 balls. David Warner, Shane Watson and KL Rahul have four hundreds each to their name while AB de Villiers, Sanju Samson and Shubman Gill had three.
The record for most hundreds in a single IPL season belongs to 2023, when 12 hundreds were registered by nine players — with Gill scoring three and Kohli two. Whereas it was in 2009 that the least hundreds were scored in a single season — two. The first-ever Indian batter to score an IPL hundred was Manish Pandey, who did so for RCB back in the 2009 season.
