Anjum Batra recently shared the screen with Punjabi superstar singer and actor Diljit Dosanjh in the film Amar Singh Chamkila, directed by Imtiaz Ali. Anjum played the role of Kesar Singh Tikki in the film. In a recent interview, the actor opened up about his experience of working with Diljit and said that he has a “divine connection” with god.

Anjum shared that Diljit constantly chants ‘Om Namah Shivay’ and ‘Waheguru’ on set. “Diljit paaji performs between action and cut and then instantly goes back to chanting ‘Waheguru’ and ‘Om Namay Shivay’,” he said and added, “I think he is constantly in a state of meditation and has a divine connection with the almighty all the time. Ek roohani taar hai unke beech (They have a thread connecting them).”

In the same conversation, he also spoke about breaking the ice with Diljit and recalled the humility of the actor. “Honestly, I have worked with the biggest of actors but never felt starstruck around them. But with Diljit paaji, there’s something about him that you cannot help but admire him. When we met for the first time, he humbly joined his hands to greet me, and there was no hug. Cut to, our first scene together, he came up to me saying how I was such a good actor and why I wasn’t working in Punjabi films. Right then, the ice was broken and we bonded so much over life and acting throughout our schedule,” he said.

Diljit is at the receiving end of similar praise from his colleagues. Only recently, Imtiaz Ali revealed Shah Rukh Khan’s praise for the actor-singer. At The Great Indian Kapil Show, Imtiaz shared that even Shah Rukh Khan was in awe of the actor. “Mujhe Shah Rukh Khan ne bola tha ki agar iss mulk mein sabse acha koi actor hai, toh woh apne Diljit paaji hai (Shah Rukh Khan told me Diljit is the best actor in the country),” Imtiaz said.

Amar Singh Chamkila is currently streaming on Netflix.
