Following the firing incident outside Salman Khan’s Galaxy Apartments residence in the Bandra area, the Mumbai police late on Monday arrested the two accused allegedly involved in the act. The two have been identified as Vicky Gupta and Sagar Pal and were arrested from Bhuj in Gujarat where they had escaped after the incident.

In the aftermath of the incident, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde spoke to Salman Khan, who has Y-plus category security cover, over the phone and assured him of increased protection. Opposition leaders, meanwhile, used the incident to criticise the government for what they perceived as a security lapse.

Now, All India Trinamool Congress Lok Sabha candidate and veteran actor Shatrughan Sinha has condemned the incident, calling it “dastardly and cowardly”. “Salman and his family, including his father, the great writer Salim (Khan) saab, are very close to my heart. When I heard of the incident on Sunday morning, my primary concern was the safety of the family. Salim saab and Salman are among the pride of our film industry. We as one fraternity should come forward to condemn such a dastardly, cowardly act,” Sinha said during a chat with Times Now. The actor-politician’s daughter Sonakshi Sinha made her film debut through Salman’s action comedy Dabangg (2010).

Mentioning that though the prayers and blessings of his fans would keep Salman and his family safe and protected, Sinha underscored that the safety and well-being of film personnel should be a priority for the state government. “Iss terah se khule aam aatank phailana (spreading terror openly like this), this is certainly not a healthy sign,” he asserted.

The parliamentarian further recalled the 2000 assassination attempt on filmmaker-producer Rakesh Roshan. “We thought those days of criminal elements trying to intimidate the film industry were over,” he added.

Following the incident, Salman’s brother and actor-producer Arbaaz Khan took to his social media handle to issue a statement condemning baseless reports. “The recent incident of firing by two unidentified persons on a motorcycle at Galaxy apartment the residence of the Salim Khan family is very disturbing and unnerving. Our family has been taken aback by this shocking incident that took place.”

“Unfortunately some people claiming to be close to our family and pretending to be the spokesperson have been making loose statements to the media saying it’s all a publicity stunt and the family remains unaffected which is not true and these views should not be taken seriously,” he emphasised.

“No member of the Salim Khan family has made any statement regarding this incident to the media. At this time the family is helping and cooperating with the police in the investigation of this untoward incident. We have faith in the Mumbai police and we have been assured they will do everything in their capacity to protect and secure our family. Thank you, everyone, for your love and support,” Arbaaz added.
