Actor Vishal, who has been open about his political ambitions for years now, has now confirmed that he will make his political entry in 2026. In a promotional interview for his upcoming release Rathanam, Vishal hinted that he will be contesting in the state election in 2026.
When asked about his political journey, the actor told Ananda Vikatan, “I will come into politics for the 2026 state elections. If the roads are good, if farmers are good, and people are all happy, I wouldn’t come into politics. However, it is not the state. So, I will come into politics.”
There is an ongoing rumour that Vishal might join Bharatiya Janata Party, and when asked if he will be contesting in the election alone or will join an existing party, the actor said those things will be decided later. In the promo of the interview, Vishal reveals that even his friend and Tamil Nadu Sports Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin has asked him whether he is going to join the BJP.
The actor has been wanting to enter politics for some time. When his 2017 film Thupparivalaan was released, the actor tried to contest in the popular RK Nagar by-election. However, his nomination was rejected as it didn’t have the required 10 proposers. The actor called the rejection a “mockery of democracy”. Over the years, the actor has been exhibiting his political ambitions in his speeches.
After Vijay announced his political entry on February 2, 2024, Vishal made a statement about his aspirations. In the statement, the actor said that he is not going to venture into politics soon, but also hinted that he is not closing the door for good. Looks like the actor had a change of mind pretty soon.
Meanwhile, Vishal is busy promoting his upcoming film Rathanam, directed by Hari. Also starring Priya Bhavani Shankar, Vijayakumar, and Samuthirakani, the film is rural action drama, a forte of the director.
