Actor Nora Fatehi opened up about her relationship with religion, and said that she observed Ramzan despite her hectic work life that makes it necessary for her to be constantly on the move. Nora said that she makes an effort to pray as often as she can throughout the day, but admitted that she isn’t always able to pray five times. Nora said that everybody sins, and the act of prayer is to seek forgiveness for those sins.

Appearing on Ranveer Allahbadia’s podcast, Nora said that she makes sure to fast every day during the month of Ramadan. “I never leave my fast, even though I’m working. Every day, since the age of 14, I have fasted. It’s been instilled in me. When you hit puberty, your parents start drilling this in your head. So, growing up, we went to school fasting, we did everything. It was normal. So now, people say, ‘How are you fasting? You’re travelling every day, you’re on a flight every day, you’re on set every day’. A part of my job description is to be physically active as a performer, right? But I don’t break my fast,” Nora said.

The actor-dancer, best known for her large social media following and her hit music videos, said that the discipline of fasting helps her in other aspects of her life as well. “I feel more in tune with my actions, my thoughts, and more spiritually sensitive,” she said. Likening ‘prayer’ to ‘meditation’, Nora said, “When you go into your zone of connecting with your creator, whoever that is for you, you’re in a different realm, spiritually and mentally… What’s so beautiful about praying five times a day is that, in the chaos of the world, there’s two minutes when you stop, and you thank your creator.”

Nora said that the act of prayer also includes ‘asking’ for things such as protection and forgiveness. “It’s so nice to have that ability to pray five times a day. I’m not saying I pray five times a day, sometimes I’m too busy. Sometimes I’m able to do two or three. It’s a work in progress for me. But when you remember to be grateful and thankful, the universe and God gives you more. It’s a transactional…”

Nora said that developing a connection with the ‘creator’ can give one ‘protection’ from outside forces. Explaining the process of prayer, she said, “When you prostrate, when you have your head to the floor, that is the moment you’re asking for forgiveness. You’re making your duas basically. That is the moment you’re connected to God on a different level altogether. People use that moment for a lot of things; most people use that for forgiveness because we’re sinners, right? Throughout the day, we’re constantly sinning. So, that’s the moment you’re reconnecting with God, you’re trying to clean your slate.”

Nora was most recently seen in the sleeper hit comedy film Madgaon Express, and before that, she appeared in the action film Crakk. She has been trying to make inroads as an actor after developing a strong following through her music videos, but, she said in this interview that she has faced pushback from major superstars in the industry who’ve been disrespectful and demeaning towards her.
