Until a few years ago, many Pakistani actors were frequently seen in Indian films and Imran Abbas, who is quite popular for his Pakistani dramas, also appeared in a few Hindi films in India. In fact, Imran was also a part of Karan Johar’s Ae Dil Hai Mushkil which came under the scanner as it released shortly after the Uri attack in 2016 and starred Pakistani actor Fawad Khan in a prominent role. Now, in a new interview, Imran has claimed that he was offered the lead role in Aashiqui 2 and was also offered the role of Sarfaraz in Rajkumar Hirani’s PK. This role was eventually done by actor Sushant Singh Rajput.

In a chat on ARY’s Shan-e-Suhoor, Imran spoke about the opportunities that he missed out during his time in the Hindi film industry. “When I look back… I left a film like Aashiqui. Everyone says, ‘You left Aashiqui? Such a big film.’ Even the role of Sarfaraz in PK. Even Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Heeramandi… I did not refuse that but it was shelved at the time. In Guzaarish also, I was offered Aditya Roy Kapur’s role,” he said.

Recalling the time when he missed out on Aashiqui 2, Imran Abbas said, “Aashiqui 2 was the biggest project. Now everyone says that they were offered Aashiqui but you ask Mahesh Bhatt. I was the only one who got an official offer from him and director Mohit Suri. People tell me that ‘What have you done? That was such a big film that you missed and the one that you did wasn’t a hit.’ Please don’t demoralise me, it won’t work.”

In India, Imran’s first film was the 2014 Creature 3D, also starring Bipasha Basu. He also starred in the 2015 film Jaanisaar. In Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, Imran played the role of Anushka Sharma’s boyfriend Faisal.
