Film producer Vashu Bhagnani spoke highly of actor Akshay Kumar, with whom he most recently worked on Bade Miyan Chote Miyan. In an interview, the veteran producer said that while they’ve had their ups and downs, they keep returning to work with each other because of the trust that they’ve developed over the years. They previously collaborated on films such as Bell Bottom and Mission Raniganj.

In an interview with Connect FM Canada, Vashu Bhagnani also highlighted the achievements of Shah Rukh Khan, who delivered three back-to-back hits last year, in Pathaan, Jawan and Dunki. He said that SRK’s accomplishments are nothing short of legendary, and will be spoken about for generations to come. “His stardom is unparalleled,” the producer said in Hindi, adding, “People love him dearly, like they haven’t loved anybody else. When they weren’t pleased with his work, they let him know, but only because they expected better of him. It all boils down to love. He returned after five years with Jawan, Pathaan and Dunki, and usne pure Hindustan ko hila diya (He shook the entire country). He saved the film industry, how can we ignore his contributions?”

He said that success in the field of filmmaking is all down to destiny, because there are so many moving parts involved. “Actors, according to me, are the least responsible for a film’s failure. Unless they lose interest midway through, that’s a different story. Akshay Kumar guni actor hai, he knows what’s right what’s wrong. Even in films that haven’t worked, his acting has always been excellent… Fans want him to come back because he has delivered such amazing films in the past, like Toilet Ek Prem Katha and Housefull.”

About his equation with Akshay, the producer said, “This is my fourth film with him. We’ve had our differences, but I respect him too much. Woh aadmi dil ka hira hai (He is a gem of a person). He never wishes ill of anybody else, he never betrays anybody. He is a good human being.” Also starring Prithviraj Sukumaran, Manushi Chhillar, Alaya F and Sonakshi Sinha, Bade Miyan Chote Miyan comes on the heels of over half a dozen box office duds starring Akshay, although he appeared in an extended cameo in the hit film OMG 2.
