The Chennai Super Kings loyalists, who craved for their former skipper to walk in to bat, were left disappointed for a second time when CSK innings ended on Tuesday without MS Dhoni coming in to bat.

However, the 42-year-old amped up the decibels at the MA Chidambaram Stadium when he took a quick-reflex diving catch to his left to get rid of Vijay Shankar. Here’s the video:

A graphic from the host broadcasters later revealed that Dhoni had stretched as much as 2.27m to complete the catch off Daryl Mitchell’s bowling.

Dhoni had relinquished the captaincy ahead of the new season to Ruturaj Gaikwad, after captaining the team for every season it has featured in the IPL since its inception in 2008.

Having been put to bat first by Shubman Gill, CSK posted 206/6 thanks to Rachin Ravindra (46), Ruturaj Gaikwad (46) and Shivam Dube (51) having a field day and Mitchell (24) as well as Sameer Rizvi (14) providing finishing touches.

Defending the total, the home side managed to restrict last year’s runner ups for 143/8 with Deepak Chahar, Mustafizur Rahman and Tushar Deshpande nabbing a couple of wickets each.
