After sending shockwaves across the nation with their actioner Vikram, director Lokesh Kanagaraj and actor Kamal Haasan have joined forces yet again, but this time for a music video titled “Inimel”, composed and conceptualised by Kamal’s daughter, Shruti Haasan. What adds intrigue to the project is Lokesh’s involvement, not as a director or in a technical capacity but, as an actor sharing the screen with Shruti in the video.

The song chronicles a young couple’s romantic relationship, starting from their first date, and also delves into the evolution of their bond as time passes, including the less glittering moments in their journey.

The video opens with a split-screen shot, depicting the two getting matched on a dating platform and exchanging texts before finally meeting up. On their first date at a movie hall, Lokesh and Shruti, despite initial awkwardness, are impressed with each other and begin watching a movie depicting the story of a young couple (played by the lead pair itself), seemingly foretelling their own future.

As they witness the ups and downs in the on-screen relationship, from adorable moments to marriage, and then a nosedive with frequent fights ending in divorce, the real Lokesh and Shruti are left apprehensive. But will that stop them from being together?

The track, with rich orchestration combining Western and Eastern instruments and Kamal’s poetic lyrics, is likely to be etched in the minds of listeners, especially due to Shruti’s emotive vocals.

Speaking at the launch event in Chennai on Monday, Shruti said, “Inimel started as an English song, after appa’s (Kamal Haasan) inputs on the lyrics front, the song got a Tamil makeover while retaining what was good in the English lyrics,” Cinema Express reported.

“I am open to learning new things. You very well know how I use music in my films, be it fresh or retro songs. Shruti has enhanced my knowledge of music, she introduced me to genres I didn’t know about till then. My playlist has gained about 50-60 songs now, thanks to Shruti. I will definitely carry this experience to my films,” Lokesh said.

Audiences also seem impressed by “Inimel,” as social media is now filled with posts praising the song. Veera Simha Reddy director Gopichand Malineni praised the work, writing on X (formerly Twitter), “Inimel is ❤️. A very well made one, you both just rocked it, Shruti Haasan and Lokesh ✌️😍.”

“Inimel completely surprised me. Shruti’s compositions always sound international. I’m already a big fan of her compositions like Unnai Pol Oruvan, Deep Blue, Monster Machine and now Inimel. Never stop composing, Shruti Haasan,” one user wrote on X.

While one netizen noted, “Lokesh Kanagaraj rocked with his presence and mesmerising voice & good composition by Shruti Haasan ❤️,” another one penned,

Directed by Dwarkesh Prabakar, the music video’s stunning visuals were captured by DOP Bhuvan Gowda and it was edited by Philomin Raj, while Kamal Haasan and R Mahendran jointly bankrolled it under the banner of Raaj Kamal Films International. The song has already gone viral on YouTube, garnering over 2.5 million views in just 17 hours.
