On March 17, Noida police had arrested Elvish Yadav after he was called for questioning in a case in which he and five Delhi residents are accused of allegedly selling snake venom at rave parties in the National Capital Region.

On March 8, Sagar Thakur had filed an assault complaint against Yadav. According to police, Yadav had called Thakur to Southpoint Mall on Golf Course Road to talk; and a purported video of the incident shows Yadav beating up the victim inside a room as the former greets him. Following this, Thakur fell to the ground and Yadav and his associates could be seen assaulting him. Based on a complaint by Thakur, an FIR was registered against the accused under Indian Penal Code sections 147 (punishment for rioting), 149 (police to prevent cognisable offences), 323 (procedure when, after commencement of inquiry or trial, Magistrate finds case should be committed), and 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) at the Gurgaon Sector 53 police station.
