Sidharth Malhotra, Raashii Khanna and Disha Patani starrer Yodha was finally released in theatres on Friday. The movie, despite its extravagant promotion that went as far as releasing the trailer mid-air during a flight, received a lukewarm response on the first day. Yodha, helmed by Sagar Ambre and Pushkar Ojha, is backed by Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions.

According to industry tracker Sacnilk, Yodha has minted Rs 3.98 crore on the first day (Data updated at 10 pm). The film had an overall 11.72 per cent Hindi occupancy on Friday. Chennai recorded the highest occupancy followed by cities like Hyderabad and Jaipur.

Yodha is facing tough competition from Ajay Devgn, R Madhavan and Jyotika starrer Shaitaan. Shaitaan completed a week in theatres and the film minted Rs 4.61 crore on Friday. Shaitaan has collected Rs 84.36 crore in India so far.

Yodha opened to poor reviews on Friday. The Indian Express film critic Shubhra Gupta wrote in her review, “You may or may not emerge unscathed from this cartoonish rigmarole, but our Yodha, fittingly, gets off with the best line in the movie: iss picture ka hero main hoon. Clap, clap.”

Sidharth Malhotra’s last theatrical release was the widely-panned Thank God opposite Ajay Devgn. Sidharth also made his digital debut with Rohit Shetty’s dismal show Indian Police Force opposite Shilpa Shetty and Vivek Oberoi.
