Ranbir Kapoor seems to have received a stamp of approval to play Lord Ram on screen by India’s favourite Ram — Arun Govil — who won the nation’s heart with his iconic role as Ram in Ramanand Sagar’s Ramayan (1987). Arun Govil recently said that he thinks Ranbir would be able to play Ram in Nitesh Tiwari’s film based on the epic mythology as the actor is “hardworking” and “sanskari”.

When asked if he thinks Ranbir Kapoor would be able to play Ram in the Nitesh Tiwari directorial, Govil told Bollywood Spy, “Woh ho sakta hai ya nahi ho sakta hai woh toh samay batayega. Pehle se kuch nahi kaha ja sakta kisi ke baare main (Only time can tell if that will happen or not, can’t say anything in advance about it). But, as far as Ranbir is concerned, he is a good actor. He is an award-winning actor.”

“Jitna jaanta hoon main unko, bahut mehnat se kaam karte hain wo, bahut sanskari bache hain woh. Unke andar morals, sanskar, sanskriti hai. Maine dekha hai kayi baar unko (As much as I know about him, Ranbir works very hard, and he is a very cultured kid. He has got good moral and cultural values. I’ve noticed it several times). I’m very sure that he will try to do his best.”

Arun Govil played Ram, Deepika Chikhalia played Sita, Sunil Lahiri played Lakshman and Dara Singh played Hanuman and Arvind Trivedi was Ravana. It is being reported that in Nitesh Tiwari’s reimagination of Ramayana, Ranbir will play Ram, Sai Pallavi will play Sita, KGF star Yash as Ravana and Sunny Deol as Hanuman. There are also reports that suggest Arun Govil will play Dashrath in the movie. However, there is no official announcement about the movie but the film is expected to be released in theatres in 2025.
