The daughter of a Tamil mother, legendary actor Sridevi who rose to fame in the south with her powerful performances before moving to Bollywood and reigning over India’s biggest film industry, many would have already assumed that it was only a matter of time before Janhvi Kapoor followed in her mother’s footsteps and ventured into the south. But not even her most ardent fans would have imagined that the actor would receive such a massive launch and that too in the Telugu industry, with two back-to-back projects wherein she will appear alongside two of the biggest stars there.

After bagging a key role in the NTR Jr-starrer Devara: Part 1, Janhvi has now been roped in as the female lead in the upcoming Ram Charan-starrer, tentatively titled RC16. The film’s production company, Mythri Movie Makers, made the announcement on the occasion of Janhvi’s 27th birthday on Wednesday. “Welcoming the celestial beauty on board for #RC16 ✨ Happy Birthday to the mesmerizing #JanhviKapoor ❤️‍🔥,” the firm wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

Helmed by Buchi Babu Sana, who made his directorial debut with the 2021 critically and commercially acclaimed Telugu movie Uppena, RC16 is touted as a pan-Indian film, marking the return of Ram Charan after Acharya (2022).

While Oscar-winning music director AR Rahman will compose RC16’s tracks, the remaining cast and crew details will be revealed soon.

On her 27th birthday on Wednesday, Janhvi Kapoor was announced as the female lead in Ram Charan’s upcoming movie.

In addition to Devara and RC16, Janhvi is currently working on two more films — Sharan Sharma’s Mr & Mrs Mahi, based on the life of cricketer and former team India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni, and Sudhanshu Saria’s patriotic thriller Ulajh. While she will share the screen with Rajkummar Rao in Mr & Mrs Mahi, Ulajh also stars Gulshan Devaiah and Roshan Mathew.

The daughter of producer Boney Kapoor and veteran actor Sridevi, Janhvi made her film debut by playing the lead role in Shashank Khaitan’s Dhadak, a remake of the 2016 Marathi blockbuster Sairat.
