After struggling for two long years during the pandemic, the Hindi film industry made a come back in 2023 and how! The year witnessed Shah Rukh Khan reinvigorating theatres by delivering two major blockbusters, Jawan and Pathaan. Sunny Deol’s Gadar 2 and Ranbir Kapoor’s Animal also etched their names in the record books.

Riding high on the success of 2023, the cinematic landscape for 2024 looks promising, with a series of highly-anticipated Hindi films slated for release. Here’s an overview of the major releases scheduled for this year:

Fighter

This Siddharth Anand directorial brings together two of Hindi cinema’s most charismatic stars – Hrithik Roshan and Deepika Padukone. Playing Indian Air Force pilots in the film, the duo’s on-screen chemistry is evident not only in the recently released teaser but also in the film’s peppy songs. Fighter will release on January 25, 2024, just a day before Republic Day.

Main Atal Hoon

Renowned for his chameleon-like ability to embody diverse characters, Pankaj Tripathi is poised to take on the challenging role of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee in the biopic Main Atal Hoon. Directed by the National Award-winning filmmaker Ravi Jadhav, the film is scheduled for a theatrical release on January 19, 2024.

Merry Christmas

After a gap of six years, critically acclaimed filmmaker Sriram Raghavan returns to the director’s chair with Merry Christmas. The trailer of the film earned applause from Bollywood celebrities and fans alike. This romantic thriller, starring Katrina Kaif and Vijay Sethupathi in the lead roles, will hit theatres on January 12.

Singham Again

Rohit Shetty’s cop universe got bolder and bigger with the announcement of Singham Again. This third installment of the super-hit cop franchise, Singham, boasts an ensemble cast featuring some of Bollywood’s biggest names, including Kareena Kapoor, Ajay Devgn, Ranveer Singh, Akshay Kumar, Tiger Shroff, and Deepika Padukone. It is set to release on August 15.

Yodha

Following his portrayal of Army officer Vikram Batra in Shershaah, Sidharth Malhotra is set to don the uniform once again in the upcoming film Yodha, where he takes on the role of a commando. Directed by Sagar Ambre and Pushkar Ojha, the movie is slated to hit theatres on March 15. Adding to the intrigue, Disha Patani plays a pivotal role in this action-packed venture.

Emergency

In addition to showcasing the remarkable life of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee on the big screen, another cinematic portrayal will shed light on the extraordinary legacy of another former Prime Minister, Indira Gandhi. Kangana Ranaut will portray the role of Indira Gandhi in the movie. The film is based around the 1975 emergency period which was imposed by Indira. Apart from playing the lead role, Kangana has also directed and produced Emergency, making it a very crucial film for her career. While the exact release date remains undisclosed, Kangana has confirmed that the film is set to hit screens in 2024.

Metro… In Dino

Anurag Basu’s eagerly awaited anthology, Metro… In Dino, is scheduled for release on March 29. Serving as a sequel to the acclaimed 2007 film Life in a… Metro, which was also directed by Basu, the multi-starrer boasts a cast featuring Aditya Roy Kapur, Sara Ali Khan, Anupam Kher, Neena Gupta, Pankaj Tripathi, Konkana Sensharma, Ali Fazal, and Fatima Sana Shaikh in prominent roles.

The Crew

Another much awaited multi-starrer of 2024 is Rajesh Krishnan’s The Crew. The film stars Kareena Kapoor Khan, Tabu, Kriti Sanon and Diljit Dosanjh in the lead roles. It is a story of three women and is touted as a laugh-riot, set against the backdrop of the struggling airline industry. It will release on March 22.

Bade Miyan Chote Miyan

Akshay Kumar and Tiger Shroff have set the stage for their film Bade Miyan Chote Miyan to release on Eid 2024. Directed by Ali Abbas Zafar, the film has been shot across exotic locales in Scotland, London, India and UAE.

Mr And Mrs Mahi

Janhvi Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao are set to reunite on the screen for the second time since Roohi in Sharan Sharma’s upcoming film, Mr And Mrs Mahi. Janhvi takes on the role of a cricketer in this intriguing narrative. Produced by Karan Johar, Mr And Mrs Mahi is scheduled for release on October 7.

Chandu Champion

Chandu Champion marks actor Kartik Aaryan’s first collaboration with filmmaker Kabir Khan, who is known for films like 83, Bajrangi Bhaijaan and Tiger Zinda Hai among others. The film is scheduled for release on June 14, 2024.

Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3

Adding to the much-anticipated lineup of Kartik Aaryan films in 2024 is Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3. The actor is set to reprise the role of Rooh Baba in the third installment of the popular franchise. The announcement teaser hints at Rooh Baba being possessed by a spirit, adding an intriguing dimension to the storyline. The makers have announced that the film is scheduled for release on Diwali in 2024.

Stree 2

Speaking of horror-comedy films, the much-anticipated Stree 2, starring Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor, is set to release in 2024. Serving as the second installment of the critically acclaimed film Stree (2018), the film is a part of Dinesh Vijan’s horror comedy universe. Helmed by Amar Kaushik and featuring a stellar cast including Pankaj Tripathi, Aparshakti Khurrana, and Abhishek Banerjee, Stree 2 is slated to hit the screens on August 30.

Jigra

After showcasing her versatility across various genres, Alia Bhatt is set to dive into the action genre in her upcoming film, Jigra. Jointly produced by Alia and Karan Johar, the movie is directed by Vasan Bala, renowned for his work in films such as Mard Ko Dard Nahi Hota and Monica, O My Darling. Jigra will release in theaters on September 27.

Welcome To the Jungle

Akshay Kumar’s much-anticipated comic caper, Welcome To The Jungle, marks the third installment of the hit film franchise Welcome. Directed by Ahmed Khan, the film boasts a star-studded ensemble, featuring Bollywood actors such as Sanjay Dutt, Suniel Shetty, Arshad Warsi, Paresh Rawal, Johnny Lever, Rajpal Yadav, Tusshar Kapoor, Shreyas Talpade, Krushna Abhishek, Kiku Sharda, Daler Mehndi, Mika Singh, Rahul Dev, Mukesh Tiwari, Sharib Hashmi, Inaamulhaq, Zakir Hussain, Yashpal Sharma, along with Raveena Tandon, Lara Dutta, Jacqueline Fernandez, Disha Patani, and Vrihi Kodvara. The film is set to hit theaters on December 20.
