Shah Rukh Khan was still a newbie when producer Vivek Vaswani made it his mission to launch Shah Rukh strategically. The two developed a strong friendship so when SRK got married to the love of his life Gauri Khan in 1991, Vivek was one of the guests. In a recent interview, Vivek recalled attending Shah Rukh’s wedding and shared anecdotes from the time.
Talking to Siddharth Kannan, Vivek said that at the time of Shah Rukh’s wedding, the actor was still living with him at his parents’ house. As a wedding gift, Vivek gifted the newlyweds a five-day stay at a hotel in Mumbai and after that, they moved to an apartment which was owned by filmmaker Aziz Mirza. “After the wedding, we took Gauri to Darjeeling because we had to shoot the title song of Raju Ban Gaya Gentleman. When they returned to Bombay, of course, they couldn’t stay at my house so as a gift, I gave them five days at Sun n Sand, then they moved to Aziz’s house,” he recalled and mentioned that he had to borrow money from his father for this gift.
When asked about his memories from the wedding, Vivek Vaswani said that the “food was great”. “It was a fabulous wedding, everything was very nice. It was so much fun,” he said and recalled that Aziz Mirza was in attendance as well. Vivek shared that Shah Rukh’s childhood friends and Gauri’s brother were in such “high spirits” and enjoyed the wedding but since he doesn’t drink, he just soaked in all the fun from the sidelines. Vivek also said that the couple got married as per Hindu and Muslim traditions and also got a registered wedding. “All three weddings happened in one day,” he shared.

Talking about Gauri, Vivek said that they never interacted much but he always found her to be a “warm and cordial” person. He also spoke about meeting Gauri socially and said that she has always been nice to him.
Vivek Vaswani helped Shah Rukh Khan in the early days of his career but likes to maintain that he is not the reason for Shah Rukh’s success but only a vessel who helped him get to his destination.
