Arjun Kapoor is one of those Bollywood actors who, despite hailing from a prominent film family, has been “struggling” to make a space for himself in the industry though almost 12 years have passed since he made his on-screen debut in Habib Faisal’s Ishaqzaade. With an uneven career marred by several significant debacles, apart from a few good performances, Arjun is now playing the main antagonist role in Rohit Shetty’s highly anticipated Singham Again.

The film’s makers had, last week, unveiled the star’s first look from the movie, where he was seen holding a bloodied machete with his curly hair and dense beard adding to the ominous aura. Drenched in blood and clad in black attire, the actor also sported a menacing smile, setting the tone for his villainous portrayal.

Meanwhile, Arjun recently opened up about the new avatar and stated that he gave his all to the role. “I’m thankful to all the directors and producers who have given me a chance to shine. I’m ecstatic that a [successful] filmmaker like Rohit Shetty saw that I had the potential to play the villain in his massively mounted Singham Again. I have given it my all,” he said during a chat with Mid-Day.

He also mentioned that he never planned to become an actor but rather fell in love with movies as he spent more and more time observing how people in the industry were dedicated to providing wholesome entertainment.

“So, when I wanted to explore acting, I was not fixated on what I was selected to play on screen. I wanted to feel the same passion and joy that I had seen actors feel when they gave a shot. I wanted to feel the rush to be in front of the camera,” he added.

“I have never been an insecure actor. I have played the lead, I was the first from my [generation] to do a two-hero film in Gunday, the first to do an ensemble in Mubarakan, to play a hero who was a house-husband to Kareena Kapoor Khan in Ki & Ka, and now, I am playing an out-and-out anti-hero,” he pointed out.

The fifth instalment of Shetty’s Cop Universe and a sequel to Singham Returns (2014), Singham Again boasts a stellar star cast comprising Ajay Devgn, Akshay Kumar and Ranveer Singh, who will reprise their roles as DCPs Bajirao Singham, Veer Sooryavanshi and Sangram “Simmba” Bhalerao, respectively. The film also features Deepika Padukone and Kareena Kapoor Khan in prominent roles.
